Welcome to Pilgrim!

We’re happy you found us! We’ve been waiting to tell you our story and to show you what Pilgrim Church has to offer.

You may be looking for a community who welcomes you as you are. You may be asking how a 2,000 year-old religion could still feel vibrant and be relevant.

You may be looking for a church community to help nurture your child. There are many reasons to visit Pilgrim. There are even more reasons to stay.

Pilgrims don’t all look alike or think alike or act alike. Here you are not required to leave your questions at home or come whole and happy. You are simply invited.

Come…and listen to the words of Jesus. Come…and know God’s welcome. Come…be a part of real life solutions to real life problems.

No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here…at Pilgrim.

From the Moderator

Welcome to the website of Pilgrim Congregational Church!  Hopefully this is the first step towards your own faith journey with us.  As a member church of the United Church of Christ, we are a congregation that believes in justice, equality, and faith development for all of God’s children.

Pilgrim was started in Oak Park, IL in 1874, and has been a vibrant part of Oak Park life since then. While we are a moderate sized congregation, we are very active both inside and outside of our walls. Inside our walls we have many social, educational, and musical programs that are of interest to adults and children. We also are home to the Pilgrim Community Nursery School that provides affordable, quality care for preschool children. Outside our walls we are in partnership and service to the many individuals and organizations in our local community that are seeking the same things we are.  However, we don’t stop locally, as we also perform service projects and support mission activities across our country and around the world.

Bruce Cox, 2015 Moderator

Past Pilgrim Events

Each year members of Pilgrim and friends spend a weekend at beautiful Tower Hill UCC camp on the shores of Lake Michigan. This past October was no different. A wonderful weekend of sharing stories, worship, workshops, hiking, games, crafts, delicious food and great fellowship was had. Mark your calendar to share in this next fall!

From the Pastor

Pilgrim Congregational Church United Church of Christ practices radical hospitality making room within the life of this faith community for people of differing ages, races, abilities, orientations, faith practices, political persuasions. We engage each other, lift each other up, and challenge each other to be better at what God has called each of us to do.

We practice passionate worship, involving many people in planning and leading worship that touches the mind and the heart and the senses. We explore our faith traditions and consider how the world in which we live requires us to be just and merciful and humble.

We are intentional about our faith development and offer a range of opportunities for members, friends, and the wider community to join us for worship, for meditation, for small group discussions, and for Sunday school for children, teenagers, and adults.

We are committed to the wider community in risk-taking mission and outreach, supporting a wide range of organizations that make a difference in people’s lives. We participate in the United Church of Christ, a progressive Christian denomination. We are involved in the Oak Park River Forest Community of Congregations. And our Donut Ministry supports and empowers the work of sixteen donut partners.

We are a generous congregation supporting the work of Pilgrim as well as the wider church and community organizations. We contribute to Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, Cluster Tutoring, Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry, The Night Ministry, West Suburban PADS, Prevail (Walk In Ministry), Chicago Theological Seminary, and many other organizations.

Come for a visit or join us for the journey. No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome at Pilgrim Church.

Blessings to you,
